Attention Brushy Mountain Shag Club Members and Friends

Attached you will find a very comprehensive chronological shag dance and concert schedule for the remainder of the 2009 year for areas surrounding the Brushy Mountain community. I compiled this from a number of sources including the regularly scheduled dances for the Brushy Mountain Shag Club, Statesville Shag Club, Boone Shag Club and the Sandy Beach Shag Club. You will also find events from our friends at the Buffalo Campground in Blowing Rock, Linville Land Harbor and other venues. I also included live concerts events featuring Beach Bands that are scheduled in surrounding areas such as the Blackmon Amphitheatre in Mt Airy, Shelton Vineyards in Dobson, and the Elkin Wine Festival. Many thanks to Susan Irwin from Sparta for giving me a very comprehensive list of live beach band concerts.

As you can see, there are events nearly every week of the year where one has the opportunity to go shagging and/or to listen to some great music. I will try to update this list if changes occur or as new events come to my attention.

You may wonder why there are different colors highlighting these events. I wanted to identify a color with each shag club/area. Thus, red = Brushy Mountain Shag Club, blue = Statesville Shag Club, Green = Sandy Beach (Morganton) Shag Club, and = Mountain orange area events (Boone Shag Club, Buffalo Campground and Linville Land Harbor). Purple was used to highlight all live beach band events. If you want to print it off without the colors, just highlight the entire document and change it to black and white.

The Boone Shag Club will hold weekly dances every Tuesday night beginning at 8 pm at the
Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock. There is no charge the Tuesday night dances. Guests are always welcome. The DJ for the Tuesday night dances will be George Brown. Free line dance lessons, 7-8 pm, on February 10, 24, and March 3. The club will not meet on February 17. In the event of severe weather, contact the Meadowbrook Inn, 828-295-4300, about possible cancellations.
